Meet Jessika. Pronounced “Yess-ika.”

A fittingly positive name for the vibrant executive chef of the West Shore Cafe.

“I’m not an angry, brooding chef like you see on TV. I’m a positive, bubbly, easy going girl,” Yess says. “I like to make people happy with food.”

And she takes her food seriously, constantly innovating and looking for new twists on the foods everybody loves.

Take her Irish Lamb Chops, for example. While the black currant demi-glace lamb chop would traditionally be joined by mashed potatoes and veggies on the side, Yess takes those and creates a “vegetable box’o’fun.”

“I like to alter a dish in such a way that a novice, a gourmet and someone who doesn’t even care at all will be able to enjoy it,” Yess says. “I think it’s really important to hit every area on the pallet with both taste and texture.”

For the past five years, Yess has been a vital part of the vibrant Reno-Tahoe dining scene, creating signature cuisine in popular restaurants such as Baxter’s Bistro at Northstar-at-Tahoe, Reno, Nevada’s Bistro 7, and Fredrick’s Fusion Bistro at Incline Village, Nevada.

“I’ve lived in restaurants my whole life,” Yess says.

Her experience also includes a stint as a private chef for a family residing in Incline Village, where she learned to be especially flexible and creative, crafting elaborate menus for celebratory galas and organic dinners for intimate family gatherings.  Bryce loves bringing out the essential flavors of ingredients and putting her own spin on traditional dishes.

The snow keeps staking up on Lake Tahoe’s Homewood Mountain Resort, and it isn’t even January.

If you haven’t been been out to ski all our new snow, you’re missing out.

But to hold you over until you can, check out our latest video:

And keep up with the latest and greatest video footage from Homewood Mountain Resort at skihomewood.com’s media gallery.

There is only one question all you serious Winter Sports Enthusiasts must ask on a day like today: “Why am I reading this and not skiing Homewood!?”

If you appreciate the attributes of calm, cool and collected then Homewood demands your respect.  It’s an epic day at the lake with calm light snowflakes blanketing the slopes.  The forecasted high temperature for today is a cool, low, and below freezing 30 degrees.  The Mountain has a great base and plenty more is starting to accumulate.  We are expecting to collect three to seven inches today at lake level and double digits in the days ahead.

Mother Nature dumped 12 to 16 inches of powder three days ago.  Yesterday afternoon had plenty of fresh tracks still to be carved.  With today’s addition, not to mention the feet in the forecast, lucky Homewood skiers and boarders will be laying down lines in the virgin snow all weekend long.

Naturally, the second question any true Winter Sports Enthusiast must ask with a weekend like the one we find ourselves in is: “How soon can I head to Homewood!?”

Thanks to Helene Drumm for sharing this sweet pic of our marvelous mountain in Homewood’s photo contest.  To share your photos from a recent adventure at Homewood, email your pictures with your name, hometown and contact information to homewoodphotocontest@gmail.com.  Who knows, maybe your photo will be the next to appear on the blog!

Happy Sliding!

Homewood received new snow this weekend, and today has been just spectacular on the mountain. The lingering storm clouds and the sun fought for space in the sky; and although the sun seemed to be winning, the cold temperatures were a sign that winter is close at hand.

It’s funny the small details we miss as we’re flying down the mountain on a snowboard or on skis. Walking up the mountain this morning was great for seeing some of the details that deserve our attention. Enjoy some photos.

Lake Tahoe, California – San Francisco and Truckee, California based JMA Ventures, LLC announced today the acquisition of Lake Tahoe’s West Shore Cafe, a full service lakefront property located in Homewood, California, adjacent to Homewood Mountain Resort.

JMA’s acquisition of West Shore Cafe represents a new beginning for the inn and restaurant, which closed its doors during the summer of 2009.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the West Shore Cafe,” said Art Chapman, Chairman of JMA Ventures, LLC. “The re-opening fits JMA’s commitment to restore the vitality of the west shore. We intend to bring back good food at an affordable price to those looking for a lake view dining experience; and to have some fun at the same time,” he said. “The Cafe will create new employment opportunities in both the winter and summer; and will encourage destination visits to Lake Tahoe’s west shore,” he added.

The West Shore Cafe is the fourth property acquired by JMA Ventures within California’s North Lake Tahoe destination. Other current holdings include Homewood Mountain Resort; Alpine Meadows Ski Resort; and the Hotel Avery – a full service four star hotel slated for construction, which received approval from Truckee, California’s Planning Commission during November, 2008. Within San Francisco, JMA holdings include Ghirardelli Square; Fairmont Heritage Place; 706 Mission Street; and Epic Roast House and Waterbar restaurants along San Francisco’s famed Embarcadero.

JMA has plans to announce the re-opening date for dining and lodging later this summer. For additional information about West Shore Cafe, visit WestShoreCafe.com.

It seems like yesterday we were skiing/riding deep powder fields; hitting the long perfectly groomed runs; and memorized by Lake Tahoe water at the tips of our skis. Yes, another snow season has come and gone.  Just as our quadriceps muscles have committed to memory the feeling of gliding down the hill, all good things come to an end…at least until next season! From all of us at Homewood Mountain Resort, we wish you a safe summer season and look forward to having you on our slopes again in the 2010/2011 winter season. As always, stay tuned to our website for the latest news for season passes, lift tickets, and events.

Homewood Mountain Resort held its annual Pro Patrol Tuesday, March 9. This event is truly legendary – a Tahoe tradition. HMR Patrol Race serves as a beacon for California patrol teams from all Tahoe mountains; as well as the southern Sierra and northern Nevada mountains.

The Homewood Patrol Race, though, is a ski/snowboard race in a way that Bay-To-Breakers is a running race; or Mardi Gras is homage to the approach of Ash Wednesday. As there are skilled players in every football game, there are racers at this race; but as there are tailgaters at a football game, there are the rest of the folks at the Homewood Patrol Race.

Before we digress too much, a big congratulations goes to Team Kirkwood, who left with the Patrol Race trophy for 2010. Strong work.

Now back to digressing. If you missed the 2010 Homewood Patrol Race, below is a quick recall. If you see yourself in it, fantastic. If not, be sure to mark the date next year and join us for an evening of fun, racing [kind of], taco eating, and a chance to be posted on the internet while dancing by yourself in the middle of a driving snow storm.

Snowbomb set if off at Homewood last Saturday with stop three on their Toyota Sick ’N Twisted Big Air Tour.

The snow was coming down hard at times, but the competitors threw down even harder and we saw some killer tricks off the big jump on The Face, check out the teaser we posted on Saturday.
