It seems like yesterday we were skiing/riding deep powder fields; hitting the long perfectly groomed runs; and memorized by Lake Tahoe water at the tips of our skis. Yes, another snow season has come and gone.  Just as our quadriceps muscles have committed to memory the feeling of gliding down the hill, all good things come to an end…at least until next season! From all of us at Homewood Mountain Resort, we wish you a safe summer season and look forward to having you on our slopes again in the 2010/2011 winter season. Kids who were skiing and riding at Homewood today were not only shredding the one to two feet of fresh powder; they were rippin’ it UP in the 2nd Annual Homewood Mini Slopestyle contest! Homewood’s park crew pushed together a triple jump line sized just right for groms to show off their tricks in the terrain park at the top of Madden Chair. Check ‘em out!

Homewood Mountain Resort held its annual Pro Patrol Tuesday, March 9. This event is truly legendary – a Tahoe tradition. HMR Patrol Race serves as a beacon for California patrol teams from all Tahoe mountains; as well as the southern Sierra and northern Nevada mountains.

The Homewood Patrol Race, though, is a ski/snowboard race in a way that Bay-To-Breakers is a running race; or Mardi Gras is homage to the approach of Ash Wednesday. As there are skilled players in every football game, there are racers at this race; but as there are tailgaters at a football game, there are the rest of the folks at the Homewood Patrol Race.

Before we digress too much, a big congratulations goes to Team Kirkwood, who left with the Patrol Race trophy for 2010. Strong work.

Now back to digressing. If you missed the 2010 Homewood Patrol Race, below is a quick recall. If you see yourself in it, fantastic. If not, be sure to mark the date next year and join us for an evening of fun, racing [kind of], taco eating, and a chance to be posted on the internet while dancing by yourself in the middle of a driving snow storm.

I knew this was going to be a good day from the moment I woke. Plus, it was dumping out! I was off to a late start, but it really didn’t matter; I had just overheard Quail Face had opened. Yee haw! I migrated my way from Old Homewood Express to Noonchester Traverse; really, it’s an easy traverse and so worth it if you are seeking fresh powder shots. And jackpot! Let the face shots begin. Now I don’t know about you, but starting my day off with a little hike to get some fresh turns makes any day a Homewood day. I hope you all had the chance to find your turns.

All I can say is WHAT A DAY! Homewood today is why we all either live at Lake Tahoe or visit Lake Tahoe: amazing snow, gorgeous weather, great friends, and stunning scenery. It really doesn’t get any better.

Today was Homewood’s opening day, and the entire mountain was open thanks to the 5+ feet of snowfall (at the base!) the mountain has received so far this December. I found light, silky snow off trail on the north facing slopes in the trees, and Shaggy and his team of grooming pros deserve a HUGE nod for putting down some of the best groomed trails! Thanks guys!

I can’t even begin to tell you how amazingly DEEP the powder was today!  My first run off Quail, the snow floated so high up to my waist, I began to giggle.  Yes, I know I’m on tele’s but I had not even begun to dip a knee yet!  That’s how you know this is going to be the most talked about day ever!!  And the best part…the National Weather Service is calling for more!

So, if you wanted actual proof as to how deep it really was, try and find the snowboard!

And as always here at Homewood, we put a smile on your face.

If you are like me, you probably never call in sick.  However, if those weather men and women are right, you may feel a cough coming on.

Wow, what an amazing day at Homewood! Fresh, untracked powder ruled the day, and skiing through the huge trees was about the most memorable way to spend Christmas Eve day.

All the favorites were open, and even with all this new snow, Homewood’s grooming team had perfectly groomed slopes for everyone who is still easing into the season with gentle turns.

Fun was had by all at the Homewood Passholder Party Friday, December 19! Everyone participated in decorating the Christmas tree in the South Lodge and enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres; chatted with old friends and ski buddies, and gave cheers to a great winter ahead with a champagne toast. With more than 3 feet of new snow within the past week, everyone is looking forward to making turns on the mountain on opening day, set for Christmas Eve day.
